Memorial Day 2025
The Tecolote Auxiliary Hosted another very successful Memorial Day Celebration May 26th –. The celebration started at 9 AM with a parade through La Madera and SPCE of Fire Vehicles and residents who joined in. The parade returned to the fire station, and everyone was treated to a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, orange juice and coffee. Items that had been donated by local artisans and businesses in he east mountains were featured in a very popular silent auction.
Fire Chief Joe Gober spoke of the many competent firemen that he has working with him. Joe explained the new Knox boxes which are available and are helpful to the fire department should there be an emergency at a residence and the response team is unable to contact the owner. He then introduced Jerry Carroll who explained the need to have the fire department visit homes to apprise residents of possible things that they might need to do to keep their homes safe from wildfires. He explained the need to create a diagram of the interior of the home and out buildings, and obtain information about pets, and any health issues that the residents might have. This information is kept in the fire response vehicles and is invaluable in time of emergency.
This was a great opportunity for everyone to meet and thank the firemen and to visit with their friends and meet new neighbors.
